The program of Bhoomi Pujan of the expanded building of Maharashtra in Moka, Mauritius was recently completed in the presence of BJP state president Ravindra Chavan. On this occasion, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Ravindra Chavan said that the relationship of friendship between Maharashtra and Mauritius has been going on for generations and despite living across the seven seas, the Marathi society here has preserved its cultural roots with great pride. The people present expressed their gratitude on receiving a fund of Rs 8 crore for the expansion of this building on the initiative of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Important discussion on cyber security, AI, tourism
BJP State President Ravindra Chavan further strengthened India-Mauritius relations by meeting high level dignitaries during his two-day visit to Mauritius. During this visit, he paid a courtesy call on Mauritius President Dharambir Gokhul at his official residence. In this meeting, important topics like India-Mauritius friendship, blue economy, tourism, AI and cyber security were discussed in detail.
Saying ‘Mauritius is the younger brother of India’, the President praised the work of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He also expressed his gratitude for the cooperation given by India.
Mauritius needs India’s support: Ramtohool
Apart from this, important meetings were also held with Mauritius Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ramful, IT and Innovation Minister Dr. Avinash Ramtohool and Arts and Cultural Minister Mahendra Gondia. Dr. Ramtohool shared his memories of his studies at Ferguson College and presented his book written on Artificial Intelligence. He especially praised the transparency brought through GPS technology in the rationing system in Maharashtra. He also said that India’s cooperation is necessary to make Mauritius the gateway to AI sector for Africa. Apart from this, positive discussions were also held on issues like cultural exchange, library and getting nomination of Jagri dance in UNESCO.
Maharashtra Bhawan will further strengthen Marathi identity at the global level
A major highlight of this visit was the foundation stone laying ceremony of the expanded building of Maharashtra Bhavan in Moka. This building, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 8 crore under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis, will further strengthen Marathi identity at the global level. The local society enthusiastically supported the proposal to name the auditorium of this building after Swatantraveer Savarkar.
Apart from this, the promotion of Indian culture abroad was further strengthened through programs like cultural program organized by Mauritius Marathi Mandali Federation, distribution of grants under Maha Ganeshotsav 2025 and participation in Bihar Festival with Anurag Srivastava, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius. All these incidents expressed confidence that a new chapter in Maharashtra-Mauritius relations would begin.

Ravindra Chavan discussed various topics with several prominent Marathi personalities including Mauritius MP Arvin Babaji, Mauritius Marathi Mandali Federation Chief Religious Guru Guruji Santaram Raju, Mauritius Marathi Mandali Federation President Balraj Naru, Mauritius Marathi Cultural Center Trust President Dhanirao Bhiwaji and Mauritius-based Marathi Speaking Union President Bhalchandra Govind.
Besides, grant checks were also provided by the Cultural Department of Maharashtra Government to institutions like Melrose Shri Gajanan Saraswati Mandir, Mont Roches Marathi Mitra Mandali, Vithoba Rakhumai Maratha Mandir, Dagottier Marathi Shiv Mandir, Lesperance Marathi Ganoba Mandir, Providence Marathi Mitra Mandal and Palma Marathi Sabha.
