A shocking incident has come to light from Koraput district of Odisha, where a young man and woman were publicly humiliated and a heavy fine was also imposed on them for performing an inter-caste marriage. According to the information, this case is of Machhra forest area near Jaipur area of Koraput. Here a young man got married to a girl from a different caste from his own village. But this marriage was not accepted by the people of both their communities, which created tension in the area.
After the marriage, a meeting was called in the village regarding this matter. In this meeting, the people of the community decided to punish this couple. As per the decision, the groom’s head was forcibly shaved, while the bride’s hair was cut. Not only this, a fine of Rs 90 thousand was also imposed on this couple. He was also asked to organize a feast for the people of his community, in which meat and rice were served.

It is being told that people of the community gathered near Machhra Hills, where this feast was organized and fine was collected. Only after fulfilling all these conditions the bride was allowed to go to her husband’s house. This incident once again shows that despite legal protection, old traditions related to caste still continue in many parts of the country. After this matter came to light, the discussion in the area has intensified and concern regarding such incidents has also increased.
