Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led NDA has performed very well in the Rajya Sabha elections. Out of total 37 vacant seats, NDA has won 22 seats. Elections were held on 11 Rajya Sabha seats of Haryana, Bihar and Odisha on Monday (March 16, 2026), out of which NDA won 9 seats. NDA candidates were victorious on all five seats of Bihar. BJP has won three out of four seats in Odisha and one seat in Haryana.
NDA achieved unilateral victory in Bihar
Talking about Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, BJP President Nitin Naveen, RLMO President Upendra Kushwaha, Union Minister Ramnath Thakur and the fifth candidate Shivesh Ram have all won.
Out of 4 seats in Odisha, 3 BJP and 1 BJD won. Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal, Sujit Kumar who came to BJP from BJD and old BJP leader and currently party supported candidate Dilip Rai won the election.
BJP has captured one of the two seats in Haryana and Congress has captured the other.
BJP candidate Sanjay Bhatia won one of the two seats in Haryana and Congress candidate Karmaveer Boudh won the other seat.
BJP had declared two candidates in Assam, both are new faces. Jogen Mohan is a minister in the state government, while Terash Gowala was an MLA. Apart from this, Pramod Boro from NDA ally UPPL won one seat.
NDA’s influence in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Bengal
Apart from this, BJP won 1 seat each from Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. In which Lakshmi Verma from Chhattisgarh and former state president Rahul Sinha from West Bengal will reach the Upper House of Parliament.
BJP announced the names of its four candidates in the list from Maharashtra. The names of Union Minister Ramdas Athawale and National General Secretary Vinod Tawde are included in this list. Apart from these, Maya Chintaman and Ramrao Barkute have also reached Rajya Sabha on behalf of the party. NDA has won 6 out of 7 seats in Maharashtra.
What is the total number of NDA in Rajya Sabha now?
In this way, out of 37, NDA has won 6 seats in Maharashtra, 5 in Bihar, 3 in Odisha, 3 in Assam, one in Chhattisgarh and one in Bengal. Along with this, one from Tamil Nadu, one from AIADMK, K. M. Thambidurai, one from PMK, one from BJP and one from Haryana, thus NDA increased from 12 seats to 22 and BJP’s number increased from 9 to 14. At present, if we talk about the total number of NDA in Rajya Sabha, it has crossed 135.
