China bans hidden handles in cars. You must have seen a very stylish feature in today’s modern and expensive cars, the door handles which remain hidden inside the body and come out when touched. This feature was started by Tesla and within no time it became a status symbol. But now this feature can prove fatal. In view of this danger, China has taken a big decision and banned cars with these fancy handles. With this, China has become the first country in the world to do so. You should also know the reason.
Design of cars will change from 2027
- China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has made it clear that there will be no compromise on security. According to the new rules, it will now be mandatory to have mechanical release buttons on both the inside and outside of the car doors, so that the door can be opened even if power fails.
- There should be a gap of at least 6 cm long, 2 cm wide and 2.5 cm deep to hold the handle in the doors. This rule will come into effect from January 1, 2027. The vehicles which are about to hit the market have been given two years’ time to change their design.
Sword hanging over Tesla in America too
Not only China, America and Europe are also troubled by this feature. America’s safety agency NHTSA is already investigating Tesla’s electronic handles. Such complaints were received in America that the power of Tesla (Model Y) suddenly stopped and the children sitting inside could not get out. In 4 out of 9 cases, people had to break the car window to save their lives. The companies argue that the method for emergency has been described in the manual, but investigators say that no one reads the manual in times of trouble and this method is very complicated.
