West Bengal News: The Election Commission is always known for ensuring transparency and strictness of rules in the electoral process, but an unprecedented incident has happened in Katoa area of West Bengal. Here a Booth Level Officer (BLO) served notice of SIR hearing to himself and his wife. This incident has created a lot of discussion in the area, where BLO Debshankar Chattopadhyay himself had to take action against his family members.
One rule for all – BLO on notice
Despite being a BLO, a notice has come in the app as per the rules of the Election Commission. Therefore, he himself and his wife will have to be present in the hearing and like the other five people, they too will have to stand in the line for the hearing. In this context, Katoa sub-divisional ruler Anirban Basu verbally explains, “Even if you are a BLO, you will have to follow the rules of the Election Commission. Same rules in case of your family also.”
Why was the hearing notice issued?
It has been learned that Debshankar Chattopadhyay, teacher of Bhomarkol unpaid primary school under Ketugram assembly constituency, is originally a resident of Korola village of the same area. He is the BLO of booth number 165 there. Presently he lives in Chowrangi area of ward number 10 of Katoa city with his wife Anindita Chattopadhyay and his one son. Both Debshankar Babu and his wife have received notice for the SIR hearing. BLO Debshankar Babu’s father’s name is Pulkendra Chattopadhyay, but due to logical discrepancy the surname is spelled wrong. For this reason the Election Commission has sent him a hearing notice.
On the other hand, wife Anindita Chattopadhyay’s maternal home is in Nakashipada of Nadia district. His father’s name is Anil Chattopadhyay. But for logical reasoning, there is an age difference of 50 years between him and his father. Therefore, the BLO husband served hearing notice to himself and his wife.
Debshankar Babu says, “I am bound to follow the rules of the Election Commission. Here my own family has no separate importance. Everyone is equal.” His wife Anindita Chattopadhyay says, “This is my husband’s job. He has to work.”
