The continuously emerging cases of murders, rape and domestic violence have raised the question as to when will the safety of women be ensured.
Murder of 40 year old woman
There was a sensation when the dead body of a 40 year old woman was found on the roadside in Nodakhali area on Friday morning. Due to the disarray of the woman’s clothes, the police initially suspected rape. The body has been sent for post-mortem to find out whether the woman was physically abused before or after the crime.
Police have detained a local resident on suspicion and his interrogation is ongoing. At present, considering the seriousness of the matter, the police is investigating from many angles.
Rape and murder of minor girl
Just a few days ago, another heart-wrenching incident came to light in the district. On the evening of Children’s Day, an 8-year-old girl left home to play, but did not return. The family members searched for him the whole night, but no trace was found. The next morning his mutilated body was found in the nearby area, which shocked everyone.
During the investigation, suspicion fell on a cousin of the girl. Initially he clearly denied the crime, but after rigorous interrogation he broke down and confessed to the crime. According to the police, the accused lured the girl with chocolate and took her with him and then brutally murdered her. ASP Mithun De of Diamond Harbor Police District said that the accused has been sent to police custody. The investigation of the case is going on fast so that the charge sheet can be filed as soon as possible and the culprit can be punished. This incident is going to shake the entire area.
Cases of murder of housewives also increased
The series of crimes against women did not stop here. A few days ago, the suspicious death of a young housewife Pooja Purkayastha in Shyampukur also troubled the police. The family members took him to the hospital in an unconscious state, where he was declared dead.
Police investigation found many scratches and injury marks on his body. During the search of the in-laws’ house, a suspicious note was also found in the house which read, “No one is responsible for our death.” This note further increased the suspicion of the police. The post mortem report made it clear that the woman was strangled to death. After this, the police took her husband into custody considering her as the main accused.
Man surrenders after killing wife
In this series, another incident that happened in Baghbazar shook everyone. A man named Sumit Purkayastha went to the police station and surrendered after killing his 24-year-old wife Pooja Purkayastha. During police interrogation, he claimed that he took this step on suspicion of his wife having an extramarital affair. The husband also tried to show the murder as suicide, but failed.
The hospital informed the police due to several injuries and scratches found on the body. It became clear in the police action that this was a case of clean murder.
Fear among people due to increasing crimes
These continuous incidents have spread panic in South 24 Parganas, Baghbazar and surrounding areas. People are forced to ask when will atrocities against women and girls stop? The police have intensified investigation in all the cases and have assured strict punishment to the accused.
However, the repeated occurrence of these incidents shows that there is a need to further strengthen awareness in society, communication within families, and systems related to women’s safety.
