According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 15.6 degrees Celsius, which is about two degrees below normal. It is estimated that the temperature may go down further in the coming days. Cold will be felt more during night and morning.

Winter has become more intense in the hilly areas. The minimum temperature in Darjeeling has reached around 5 degrees. Cold wave like conditions are being felt in the mountains in the morning and evening. The Meteorological Department says that further decline in temperature may be seen in the next four to five days. The effect of cold winds will be felt throughout South Bengal. There is a possibility of dense fog in all the districts of South Bengal in the morning. Road and rail traffic may be affected due to increase in fog. The administration has advised people to travel with caution.
