Before the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India, there is great news in the field of defence. There is an agreement between India and Russia regarding nuclear submarine. Russia will lease SSN (Chakra Class) submarine powered by submarine nuclear plant to India. Russia has promised to refit this nuclear submarine by 2028. The Navy Chief said that India wants to get this nuclear submarine by the year 2027.
This is the second nuclear submarine that India is going to get from Russia. Earlier in 2012, INS Chakra submarine was taken on lease from Russia for 10 years. She went back to Russia in 2022. This nuclear submarine can remain underwater for several weeks. This further increases the maritime power of any country. This submarine will be given on lease to India for 10 years.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday (December 2, 2025) that during President Putin’s visit, the S-400 defense system may be included in the agenda of giving to India.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India on 4-5 December on a state visit. During this time he will attend the 23rd India-Russia Annual Conference. During this, Putin will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India and Russia are now moving towards expanding their friendship into business partnership also. This is the reason why talks are also taking place between the two countries regarding trade.
This state visit of Vladimir Putin is being considered special in many ways. The visit will review the development of bilateral relations between the two countries and set a vision to strengthen the ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership’.
