The results of Bihar Assembly elections 2025 have come out. According to the trends till 1 pm, NDA has taken lead in about 190-199 seats out of 243 seats in the state. At the same time, the opposition grand alliance (RJD-Congress-other opposition parties) has not been able to cross even the 50 seats mark. This victory is reminiscent of the 2010 assembly elections for the NDA, when the BJP and Nitish Kumar’s JDU gave a crushing defeat to the opposition.
2010 competition and seat sharing
Nitish Kumar’s JDU was also a part of NDA in the 2010 elections. At that time JDU had fielded candidates on 141 seats and BJP on 102 seats. On the opposition side, RJD contested on 168 seats, LJP on 75 seats and Congress on all 243 seats. At that time the grand alliance was not complete, but was only an alliance between RJD and LJP.
2010 results: NDA had won
In 2010, NDA made a record by winning a total of 206 seats. JDU won 115 seats and BJP won 91 seats. In the opposition, RJD had won 22 seats, LJP had won 3 and Congress had won 4 seats. Candidates of CPI, IND and JMM were successful on the remaining seats. In this way, NDA got a historic victory while the opposition could not even reach the figure of 50 seats.
Mathematics of votes: NDA’s advantage, Grand Alliance’s loss
In comparison to 2005, JDU had gained 27 seats in 2010 and BJP had won 36 more seats. At the same time, the opposition had to suffer the loss of 32 seats. Talking about vote percentage, JDU got a lead of 2.12% votes and BJP got a lead of 0.84% votes. RJD had to suffer a loss of 4.36% votes.
What is the situation in the current elections
The same situation is visible in the 2025 elections also. NDA has taken the lead and the Grand Alliance seems to be lagging behind. Lalu Yadav is now maintaining distance from politics due to age and many legal matters. The command of his party is now in the hands of Tejashwi Yadav, but past trends are pointing towards a big victory like 2010.
