Major police action in the valley after the Red Fort explosion, many people detained


After the Red Fort blast in Delhi, agencies across the country are raiding and arresting miscreants and those carrying out terrorist activities. Under this, raids were conducted at many places in Baramulla, Pulwama and Shopian districts of the valley on Thursday. This information has been given by the police.

“The objective of the raid was to neutralize subversive and law-violating elements and to overall strengthen public order and citizen confidence,” a police spokesperson said.

He said that after the raid, six people belonging to the gang involved in subversive activities were brought to the police stations and booked under the law. Police searched 22 properties belonging to overground workers of terrorists, while 20 such people were banned and two were sent to jail. Two persons arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and currently released on bail were interrogated and one was booked under the precautionary law.

Police spokesperson said that eight accused released on bail under UAPA were identified and two were produced in the court for cancellation of bail. 16 cordon and search operations (CASO) were conducted in the valley, while 292 vehicles were checked.

He said that five persons belonging to ‘Egress and Internal Movement (Control) Ordinance’ (E&IMCO) and two persons belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) were searched, while two absconding UAPA accused were traced. The spokesperson said that CASO operations were conducted at many places in Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
