Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated and addressed the Global Maritime Leaders Conclave organized in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra on Wednesday (October 29, 2025). Expressing pride in the progress of India’s maritime sector, he said that 2025 is proving to be a historic year for India’s maritime sector. He said that the participation of more than 85 countries in the conference and projects worth billions of rupees along with MoUs are proof of India’s growing global confidence in this region.
PM Modi said, ‘I greet all of you at the Global Maritime Leaders Conclave. This event was started in Mumbai itself in the year 2016. Today this summit has become a global event. Earlier it was a national event, but today it has become a major platform for discussion on maritime policy, trade and technology at the global level.
Participation of more than 85 countries in the conclave shows the strength of India: Modi
Prime Minister Modi said, ‘Today the participation of more than 85 countries here is giving a big message in itself. It not only reflects India’s maritime strength, but also underlines India’s partnership and leadership with the global maritime community. Every leader present at the conference is a symbol of our common resolve.
During the conference, many big projects related to the maritime sector were inaugurated and MOUs worth lakhs of crores of rupees were also signed. PM Modi said, ‘This shows how much confidence the world has in India’s maritime capability. These agreements include projects related to port development, shipbuilding, green shipping, digital navigation and maritime security.
He stressed, ‘In this period of the 21st century, India’s maritime sector is moving forward with fast pace and energy. The year 2025 has been a very important year for India’s maritime sector.
India has become the world’s third largest ship recycling hub: PM
Referring to the Sagarmala project, indigenous shipbuilding, blue economy and modernization of ports, he said, ‘India has now become the third largest ship recycling hub in the world. India is not only making its ports world class, but is also playing an important role in the global supply chain. We are moving rapidly towards green shipping and digital ports. He called for working with India to make maritime trade safe, sustainable and inclusive.
