The incident of sudden fire in a Volvo going from Hyderabad to Bangalore has shocked everyone. The people who survived this tragic accident have told the whole story. Harika, who was traveling in the same bus, told that when she woke up startled by the chaos, she saw that the fire had engulfed almost the entire bus.
She somehow jumped out through a broken door at the rear of the bus, however the bus was burnt to ashes and 20 people aboard died. Harika, who was among about 40 passengers going from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, says that this incident might have happened around 3-3:30 in the morning. The bus caught fire after colliding with a two-wheeler on National Highway-44 near Ullandakonda in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.
‘Most of the passengers were in deep sleep’
He told that most of the passengers were in deep sleep at the time of the fire and they were finding it difficult to get out after the fire. By the time Harika woke up, the fire had erupted and spread throughout the bus within a few seconds. Harika says, “The back door was broken, so I jumped from there. I got hurt while jumping.”
Harika said that sleeper buses plying on long distance routes often have curtains on the seats to maintain privacy. Due to this, it becomes difficult for the passengers alighting from the bus to find out whether the remaining seats are filled or not. Harika says, “Because people often sleep after boarding the sleeper bus. Because of the curtains, we do not know how many people are there or who are there.”
Some people broke the windows near the driver’s seat and came out
Another survivor, Jayant Kushwaha, said that the main exit of the bus was closed. Passengers had to break windows to escape the fire. He told that we first tried to run away from the front, but the main exit was closed. Then we broke the emergency window at the back and jumped out. She was quite tall. Due to this reason some people became unconscious due to the fall. Apart from this, some people escaped by breaking the windows near the driver’s seat.
