Diamond businessman and Punjab National Bank scam accused Mehul Choksi has been considered a foreign citizen by the Belgian court. The court said that no legal ban can be imposed on his extradition to India because serious allegations are made against him. Mehul Choksi will be kept in Barrack No. 12 of Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai in India, information about which has been given to the Belgian authorities.

Indian agencies had presented photographs and facilities of Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai in the Belgian court. The Belgian court was assured by India that Mehul Choksi will be kept in humane conditions. This was done because Mehul Choksi said that he was in danger of political persecution and inhuman treatment in India. However, the court said that there is no evidence that he will be tortured or subjected to unfair trials in India.
Separate security zone for high-profile prisoners
A separate security zone has been created for high-profile prisoners in Arthur Road Jail, where there are arrangements like CCTV surveillance, security guards and limited movement zone. Barrack number 12 is spread over 46 square meters, in which two toilets and basic facilities are available. Ajmal Kasab, the terrorist who carried out the 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai, was also kept in this barrack. Barrack number 12 has two rooms and attached toilet. He will be brought out of jail only for court appearance and medical reasons.
These cases are registered against Mehul Choksi in India
Mehul Choksi has been charged with offenses of criminal conspiracy, cheating, destruction of evidence and corruption under sections 120B, 201, 409, 420 and 477A of the Indian Penal Code as well as sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. India strengthened its case by citing international treaties, including the United Nations Convention on Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and the United Nations Convention on Corruption (UNCAC), both of which have been ratified by Belgium.
