‘His contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered’, PM Modi pays tribute to famous actor Asrani on his demise


Govardhan Asrani, who played the role of a British-era jailer in the film Sholay, died on Monday (October 20, 2025). He breathed his last at the age of 84. Asrani was admitted to the hospital 4 days ago. He died due to lungs being filled with water. Many leaders including PM Modi and Amit Shah have expressed grief over the demise of the famous actor.

PM Modi posted on X and said that he is extremely saddened by the demise of Shri Govardhan Asrani ji. A talented entertainer and a truly versatile artiste who entertained audiences across generations. He brought joy and laughter into the lives of countless people through his unforgettable acting. His contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered. My condolences to his family and fans. Om peace.

‘Made a place in the hearts of millions of people by making people laugh’

Union Home Minister Amit Shah posted on Twitter on Tuesday (October 21, 2205) that the demise of renowned actor Asrani ji is extremely sad. Asrani ji contributed to Indian cinema throughout his life and made a place in the hearts of millions of people by making people laugh. May God give his family and fans the strength to bear this profound loss. Om peace.

Asrani was originally a resident of Jaipur.

Information about the death of Govardhan Asrani was given by his nephew Ashok Asrani. There was a time when Asrani was known only for comedy roles. Asrani has made invaluable contribution to comedy. Let us tell you that Asrani was originally from Jaipur and he had studied from St. Xavier’s School, Jaipur.

According to India Today report, Asrani was admitted to Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu 4 days ago. Doctors told that water had accumulated in his lungs. He died on Monday, Diwali, at around 3.30 pm.
