The Commission has made it clear that women employees will be deployed at the polling booth to ensure the identity of such women voters, so that there is no hindrance in the voting process. For this, women workers working in Anganwadi centers will be specially deployed.
According to the rules, it will be mandatory for burkanshin or pardanshin women to show their face with their identity card before voting, but this process will be done completely in the presence of female personnel and in a confidential environment so that their identity is not made public. The Election Commission has clarified that this is not a new order, but in the year 1994, the then Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) T.N. Meanwhile, the demand is being continuously raised by the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that it is necessary to check the identity of women wearing burqa so that there is no irregularities in voting. Many party leaders said that this step is necessary to eliminate the possibility of double voting by the same person. BJP argues that to maintain the transparency of democracy, identity verification of all voters should be done equally.
However, opposition parties have objected to this demand of BJP and said that it should not be seen from religious or social point of view. The opposition says that the Election Commission is already making such arrangements and complete protection of the dignity and privacy of women voters is ensured.
