Big relief to Rahul Gandhi, Supreme Court extended the stay on the ongoing hearing in Lucknow court in the case of comments on Army.

The Supreme Court has extended till November 20 the stay on the ongoing hearing against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the case of derogatory remarks on the Army. This case is related to Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra in the year 2022, in which Rahul Gandhi was accused of making derogatory remarks about the army, the hearing in this case was going on in a court in Lucknow, on which the Supreme Court had put an interim stay and now it has been extended till November 20.

On Monday (October 13, 2025), a bench of Justices MM Sundaresh and Vipul M Pancholi said, ‘In view of the letter given by the counsel for the petitioner requesting adjournment for filing the rejoinder affidavit, the matter is listed on November 20, 2025. The duration of the interim order given earlier on August 4, 2025 is extended till the next date of hearing.

The Supreme Court was hearing Rahul Gandhi’s petition, in which he had challenged the May 29 order of the Allahabad High Court. The High Court had rejected the application against the order of issuing summons by the lower court in the case. Along with the petition filed by Rahul Gandhi, two separate petitions were also listed for hearing.

While hearing Rahul Gandhi’s petition on August 4, the Supreme Court had stayed further proceedings in the complaint case pending in a Lucknow court till the next date of hearing. However, the Supreme Court bench pulled up Rahul Gandhi for his alleged remarks and asked, ‘How did you know that 2,000 square kilometers of Indian territory has been occupied by China? Were you there? Do you have any credible evidence?’

The bench asked, ‘Why are you giving this statement without any evidence? If you are a true Indian, you will not say anything like this. After this, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and the complainant in the case and sought reply on Rahul Gandhi’s petition.
