Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday (10 October 2025) targeted the opposition on the issue of refugees and infiltrators. He said that in a way, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had done the work of atoning for the mistakes that had been committed from 1951 to 2014. He said that the country’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru had promised to give citizenship to the refugees, from which he had reneged.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah posted on Twitter that the reason for the increase in Muslim population in the country is not the fertility rate but infiltration from Pakistan and Bangladesh. He wrote, after independence, Hindus in Pakistan were 13 percent and other minorities were 1.2 percent. Now only 1.73 percent Hindus and other minorities are left there. Hindus were 22 percent in Bangladesh, now only 7.9 percent are left.
‘The population increased because Muslims infiltrated’
He said, “All these Hindus who decreased there, they did not convert, many of them took refuge in India due to persecution. The reason why the number of Muslims increased in India is because many Muslims infiltrated. After independence, the leaders of India had promised the minorities of neighboring countries that riots are happening now, so do not come now, later we will give you citizenship. This was part of the Nehru-Liaquat Pact, but Congress The governments did not give them citizenship, they made them refugees. When PM Modi’s government was formed with full majority, we gave him citizenship.”
Amit Shah spoke on Hindus of Pakistan-Bangladesh
Addressing an event, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, “Who are the infiltrators? Those who have not been subjected to religious persecution and want to come to India illegally for economic reasons or other reasons, they are infiltrators. Anyone in the world who wants to come here, if he is allowed to come, our country will become a Dharamshala.” The Hindus of Pakistan-Bangladesh have the same right as I have on the soil of this country. I say this as the Home Minister of the country.”
‘Some parties gave shelter to infiltrators’
Taking aim at the opposition, he said, “Some parties have started looking at vote bank in infiltration, hence they have given shelter to infiltrators. We also have borders in Gujarat and Rajasthan, but there is no infiltration there. There has been a huge decline in the number of tribal community in Jharkhand. The reason for this is the infiltrators who have come from Bangladesh.”
