The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the Superintendent and Inspector of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Department of Santa Cruz Division of Mumbai red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 25,000. The names of the arrested accused are Vikram, Superintendent, Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Santa Cruz Division, Mumbai and Luv Kumar Chittauria, Inspector, Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Santa Cruz Division, Mumbai.
Demand for bribe in exchange for GST registration
CBI had registered this case on 07 October 2025. The allegation was that both the officers were demanding illegal amount of Rs 25,000 in exchange for GST registration of a private firm and issuance of favorable report. This firm is involved in textile business and had applied for online GST registration on 24 September 2025.
During the investigation it also came to light that at the time of inspection on 03 October 2025, the accused inspector had demanded bribe for himself and his senior officer. He had also threatened that in case of non-payment, GST registration certificate would not be issued.
Searches at officials’ locations
CBI laid a trap and caught both the accused red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 in the CGST West office in Mumbai. After this, searches were conducted at the officers’ premises. Both the arrested accused will be presented in the competent court of Mumbai on Wednesday (October 08, 2025). Further investigation of the case is going on.
