Politics has now intensified due to allegations of theft of gold in the famous Sabarimala temple in Kerala. The Congress -led opposition alliance UDF on this issue, Devaswam Board Minister V.N. Demanding Vasava’s resignation, the Kerala Legislative Assembly proceeded for the second consecutive day. As soon as the Question Hour started, opposition members started waving placards while shouting slogans. Leader of Opposition V.D. Satisan reiterated that the opposition will not let the House run until the minister resigns.
On Monday, the Kerala High Court ordered a detailed inquiry into allegations of disturbances of gold or copper cover of gatekeepers in the Sabarimala temple. The court has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) under the chairmanship of ADGP (Law and Order) H. Venkatesh.
This investigation is S.K. Shasidharan will be under the supervision of IPS and instructions have been given to complete it within six weeks.

Actually, outside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, the stone sculptures of the gatekeeper are mounted with a gold layer. They have been accused of theft and disturbances of gold. The opposition alleges that the Travancore Devaswam Board removed these sheets for repair and handed over to a sponsor named Unnikrishnan Potti.
According to the information, for the first time in 2019, these gold-plated panels were removed for repair. After 39 days, he was returned with a weight weight of 38.258 kg, while 4.541 kg was found. Panels were removed in the name of repair again in September 2025, but this time the court’s prior permission was not taken. During the investigation, two pedestals were recovered from Potti’s sister’s house in Thiruvananthapuram. The Devaswam Board dismissed the allegations and said that the panels were never handed over to Unnikrishnan Potti.

According to the board, the total weight of 14 gold-plated panels was 38 kg, which had 397 grams of gold. Of these, 2 panels were kept in Sabarimala and 12 panels (total 22 kg 281 grams weighing and 291 grams of gold) were sent for repair. Chennai’s “Smart Creations” used 10 grams of additional gold during renovation. After the repair, all the panels were returned to the temple on the instructions of the High Court, and now the total amount of gold was found to be 407 grams.
The board clarified that at the time of repairing 2019, “Smart Creations” and Unnikrishnan Potty gave 40 years of warranty. Since the warranty was named after Potty, the same sponsor was approached in 2025 as well. The board has described all the allegations of gold theft as baseless and misleading.
