15 thousand cases related to dowry in a year, more than 6 thousand women died … Ruh will tremble after seeing NCRB figures


In 2023 cases registered under dowry crimes registered a 14 percent increase in 2023. This information has been revealed in the report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). According to the report, in 2023, more than 15,000 dowry cases were registered across the country and more than 6,100 women died.

NCRB’s ‘Crime 2023’ report said that 15,489 cases were registered under the Dowry Prohibition Act in 2023, compared to 13,479 and 13,568 respectively in 2022 and 2021.

This state on top in dowry murder cases

According to the report, under this Act, the maximum number of 7,151 cases were registered in Uttar Pradesh, followed by 3,665 cases in Bihar and 2,322 cases in Karnataka. According to this, zero cases of dowry were registered during the year in 13 states and union territories including West Bengal, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Sikkim.

In the year 2023, a total of 6,156 people died in dowry murder cases. According to the report, Uttar Pradesh topped with 2,122 deaths, followed by Bihar with 1,143 deaths. In 2023 across the country, dowry was given the reason for 833 cases of murder. Accordingly, under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 83,327 cases were heard in 2023. This year, 27,154 arrests were also taken under the Act, including 22,316 males and 4,838 women.

Cases of crime increased in UP by 2021-2023

According to the NCRB report, crime cases against women have increased in Uttar Pradesh from 2021 to 2023. In the year 2021, the number of women crimes was 56083, which increased to 65743 in the year 2022.

In the year 2023, 33 women were registered in the state after gang -rape and rape. Similarly, cases of rape of 3556 women were registered. In these, 301 minor girls were raped. 140 cases were registered for attempting rape.
