Industry body NASSCOM said on Saturday (September 20, 2025) that the US move to increase the H-1B visa application fee to one million dollars will affect India’s technology service companies. NASSCOM said that this would disrupt the commercial continuity of projects running abroad, which may require adjustment.
The top body also expressed concern over the September 21 time limit to implement this increased amount and said that a day-long time limit creates a lot of uncertainty for businesses, professionals and students around the world.
H-1B visa holder Indian citizen affected
According to a statement, this move of America will affect Indian citizens who work for global and Indian companies. It further said, ‘We are reviewing the fine details of the order. This type of adjustment can affect America’s innovation ecosystem and comprehensive employment economy.
NASSCOM said, “India’s technology service companies will also be affected, while commercial continuity will be interrupted for projects going on abroad that may require adjustment.” According to the statement, companies will work closely with customers to mold according to the changes.
One day deadline worrying
NASSCOM also said that India and India-centric companies have continuously reduced their dependence on these visas by increasing local appointments in recent years. NASSCOM said that these companies follow all necessary compliance for H-1B processes in the US, pay the prevailing salary, contribute to the local economy and share innovation with education and startups.
The industry body insisted that H-1B employees of these companies are not threatened by national security in America in any way. NASSCOM said, ‘The deadline (September 21) to implement this decision is also a matter of concern. The time-limit of one day creates a lot of uncertainty for businesses, professionals and students around the world.
Adequate time is necessary for policy change
According to NASSCOM, sufficient time should be given for policy changes of this scale, which helps organizations and individuals to effectively plan and reduce disruption. The statement said that high-skill talent is important for the American economy to speed up innovation, competitiveness and growth.
NASSCOM stated that this is especially important at a time when progress in artificial intelligence (AI) and other leading techniques is ready to define global competitiveness.
