GST couricil meeting: A big decision has been taken in the 56th meeting of GST Council. 12% and 28% tax slab has been abolished in the meeting. Now there will be only two GST slabs, 5% and 18%. At the same time, a new tax slab of 40% has been approved for goods of sin and luxury. These changes will be applicable from 22 September.
After this meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed happiness on social media and said that its purpose is to make the lives of common people easier and strengthen the economy.

PM Modi further said that the Union and the GST Council made from the states have together approved this proposal. These reforms will directly benefit farmers, MSMEs, middle classes, women and youth.

After the 56th meeting of the GST Council, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “These reforms have been made keeping in mind the common man. Every tax on the daily use of the common man has been reviewed and in most cases the rates have decreased drastically. Good support has been given to labor-oriented industries. Farmers and agricultural sectors will also benefit along with agriculture.
