The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has recently taken major action on several private medical colleges in West Bengal and Odisha. It is alleged that these colleges and agents jointly admitted non-qualified students in the seats of NRI Kota and made black money of crores in this process. When the ED carried forward the investigation of the case, when the raid was raided, fake NRI certificates, fake notary stamps which were in the name of USA and many other papers were found.
Investigation revealed that according to the Supreme Court rules, only the first degree or second degree NRI can sponsor the student, but the agents made money by paying unknown NRIS documents and showing them relatives and made a fake family tree. In many cases the same NRI documents were used for different students.
What did ED come to know in the investigation?
According to the rules, the fees NRI Sponsor should be filled so that the Foreign Exchange came in India, but in most cases the fees were paid by the students of the students, which failed the real purpose of the system. Many sponsors were not in India at a time when Affidavits were made in their name. That is, fake signatures were directly used in documents.
After this action of the ED, the government and the medical counseling committee have made new and stringent rules for NRI quota admission, in which the Embassy Certificate will now be verified from the Ministry of External Affairs and High Commission. If the certificate turns out to be fake, the admission of the candidate will be canceled immediately and action will also be taken against the college.
Mea’s statement also
Mea has made it clear that the NRI certificate will be given only for the first and second degree relatives. Only correct and eligible NRI students will get admission through the new rules. NRI Kota is about 15% of the total medical seats across the country (out of 1.2 lakh MBBS seats). Now empty NRI seats will be converted into management quota and students with better ranked will get benefit.
The NRI quota is not limited to medical college. It also applies in law, MBA and central and state universities. In such a situation, this investigation will strengthen transparency and merit in the entire education system.
