Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi spoke publicly about the plan and implementation of Operation Sindoor for the first time. He said during the inauguration of the Indian Army’s Research Cell Agnishod in IIT Madras that Operation Sindoor’s strategy was like playing chess.
He said that the operation took place in the vermilion gray zone, which was unexpected and was just less than the traditional military encounter. What we did in Operation Sindoor had to play chess. This means that we did not know what steps the enemy is going to take and what we are going to do. It was a gray zone. He further said that gray zone means that we are not doing traditional operations, but we are doing something that is slightly less than the traditional operation.
What did the Defense Minister say to the army?
General Dwivedi said that its plan started on April 23, when the three army chiefs and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh agreed that decisive action was necessary. He said that this was the time when Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also said that I think enough has happened and the attitude of the three army chiefs was absolutely clear that something would have to be done. Certainly the army was given complete exemption to decide what to do.
How was Operation Sindoor different from Uri and Balakot?
The army chief said that by April 25, the Northern Command had already prepared for attacks on 7 important targets out of 9 employed targets and killed several terrorists. He said that Operation was different from earlier campaigns like Sindoor Uri and Balakot. He told that on April 29, we met the Prime Minister for the first time. He said that during the Uri operation, the focus was on targeting the launch pads to give a clear message. The aim of the 2019 Balakot attacks was to target training camps inside Pakistan as retaliation. While the operation vermilion was broad and intense, the enemy’s terrain was attacked even more deeply. Important locations with nursery and masters codennah were targeted.
