No information about the number of people missing
No information has been officially received about the number of people missing in the floods, but the local people believe that this number may be more than 50, as people did not get a chance to reach safe places due to the strong current of flood water. Officials said that many houses and hotels were destroyed in the floods in Dharali. Dharali falls about 20 kilometers before Gangotri Dham and is a major stop of the journey. He told that at about two o’clock in the afternoon, in this incident, at least half of the village was buried in the debris and mud. Nearby buildings, including three-four-storey houses, collapsed like cards in flood waters and debris.
Cloudburst caused disastrous floods
According to officials, due to cloudburst in the catchment area of Kheer Ganga river, this disastrous flood was not affected by the rage. State Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said that the high speed came in two different directions of the same hill, towards one Dharali towards Sukki village. Meanwhile, relief and rescue operations were interrupted due to the ongoing rains till evening. In addition, there was a hurdle in relief work due to blockage of roads due to landslides across the state and rescuers had difficulty in reaching the disaster -hit area.
