EC announces dates regarding Vice Presidential election, know when BJP will announce the candidate

After the Vice Presidential post in India was vacant, the Central Election Commission has announced the dates of the 17th Vice Presidential election. There will be nominations for the election for the post of Vice President by August 21, while voting will be held on 9 September. While issuing information about the notification, the Central Election Commission said that according to the notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 22 July 2025, the post of Vice President has been vacant.

According to constitutional provisions, it is necessary to hold elections to fill this post. According to Article 67 of the Constitution, the tenure of the Vice President is five years and under Article 68 (2), it is mandatory to hold elections at the earliest in case of the death, resignation or being removed from the post of Vice President.

Date from nomination to counting

According to the program released by the Central Election Commission, the notification of the election will be released on 7 August 2025 (Thursday). At the same time, the last date for filing nomination will be on 21 August 2025 (Thursday). The nomination will be checked on 22 August 2025 (Friday) and then the last date for withdrawal of nomination has been fixed on 25 August 2025 (Monday).

In case of being more than one candidate, voting will be held on 9 September 2025 (Tuesday) and the voting time will be from 10 am to 5 pm. After that the counting of votes will also be done on 9 September 2025 (Tuesday).

Confusion over the post in side and opposition

In the midst of all this, both the government and the opposition have started churning about the names of the candidates for the post of Vice President. According to the information received from the sources, all the leaders of the opposition are in favor that the opposition should be a common candidate for the Vice Presidential candidate. At the same time, some opposition leaders also believe that if the opposition has a respectable number, then the candidate should be fielded.

Along with this, discussions about the name of the Vice Presidential candidate in NDA are also going on. According to information received from sources, the candidate from the NDA can be a leader related to BJP. Soon after taking a decision at the party level, it will also be announced by discussing with all the allies of NDA.
