The Supreme Court of the country will hear a detailed hearing on the Rohingya people living in India. The Supreme Court said that decisive hearing on this is necessary. If these people are eligible to get refugee status in India, then they can live here. If not, they should be sent back.
At the same time, the Supreme Court has decided these questions to hear the matter:
- Are the Rohingya people from Myanmar entitled to the status of refugee in India? If yes, what kind of protection will they get?
- Are Rohingya illegal intruders? If yes, it is the responsibility of the central and state governments to deport them according to the law?
- If a Rohingya is detained to live illegally in India, can he be closed for eternity or should be bail with conditions?
- Those who are not in custody Rohingya, are living in refugee camps, are they being provided fundamental facilities like water, health, hygiene and education?
Supreme Court will soon decide the date of hearing
In the Supreme Court on Thursday (July 31, 2025), Justice Surya Kant, Dipankar Dutta and N.K. In front of Kotishwar Singh, more than 20 petitions related to foreigners living in India were engaged for hearing. The bench divided cases into 2 categories- Rohingya and non-roaring. The court said that first Rohingya will be heard. After that the rest of the petitions will be seen. The date of hearing will be fixed soon.
Social organizations and activists filed petitions in support of Rohingya
Many petitions about Rohingya people are pending. Some of these petitions are of Rohingya people living in India. Some social workers and NGOs have also filed petitions in their support. It has been said in these petitions that Rohingya has come to India due to danger on life in Myanmar. They should get the status of refugee according to the United Nations Convention.
Strict action should be taken against Rohingya’s illegal entry and documents- Upadhyay
Apart from this, BJP leader and lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay has also filed a petition. In this petition pending since 2017, it has been demanded that Bangladeshis and Rohingya people living illegally in India be identified and sent back within a year. Upadhyay has also demanded a detailed investigation of these people illegally entering India and making documents and strict action against those who help in it.
