Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) -led AIADMK cadre Rights Retryval Committee broke the ties with BJP -led NDA on Thursday (31 July 2025). He took this step a few hours after meeting Chief Minister MK Stalin during the morning walk.
Panneerselvam left NDA alliance
Assembly elections are going to be held in Tamil Nadu next year. In such a situation, after leaving the NDA, there are signs of new equations in state politics. Panrutty S Ramachandran, former Tamil Nadu minister and close to Panneerselvam, announced separation from NDA. He said that our group is breaking its alliance with BJP -led NDA. At that time former CM Panneerselvam was also present there.
Will an alliance with actor Vijay’s party?
S Ramachandran further said that OPS will soon visit the entire state before the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. He further said, “There is no coalition with any party at the moment. Will take a decision on the alliance when the election comes closer.” Panneerselvam did not rule out the possibility of joining hands with actor Vijay’s party Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam (TVK).
He said, “Time will tell with whom we will join hands. There is time for elections.” OPS has been a prominent leader of AIADMK. After a long tussle over the leadership within the party, he made a different grip of his own.
Why were you angry with BJP O Panneerselvam?
Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam recently wrote a letter to PM Modi seeking time for a formal meeting. They were not given time to meet. It is being told that he was angry with this. After this, he targeted the central government through social media for delay in distribution of funds of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
