The historic free trade agreement was signed between India and Britain on Thursday (July 25, 2025). The Prime Minister of India and the UK announced the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries during a joint press conference in London. There was a negotiation between India and the UK on FTA for the last 3 years, which was agreed on 6 May this year.
PM Modi expressed happiness
After meeting with British Prime Minister Sir Kir Stmper in London, PM Modi expressed happiness over the FTA signing. PM Modi said that today is a historic day. After many years of hard work, the trade agreement between the two countries has been concluded today. This agreement is not just an economic partnership, but a plan of shared prosperity.
On the one hand, Indian textile, footwear, james and jewelery, sea foods and engineering goods will get better market access in the UK. There will be new opportunities in the UK market for India’s agricultural production and processed food industry. This agreement between the two countries will prove to be particularly beneficial for the youth, farmers, fishermen and MSME sector of India.
These industries will benefit
Speaking further on FTA, Prime Minister Modi said that products made in UK like medical devices and aerospace parts will be easily available at affordable rates for the people and industries of India. Along with this agreement, double contraceptive convention has also been agreed, which will give a new energy to the service sector of both countries. This agreement will speed up the Ease of Doing Business and will reduce the cost of business. PM Modi said that the confidence of business will also increase with the Free Trade Agreement.
PM Modi said that the UK economy will get Indian skills from this agreement. These agreements will increase investment in both countries and create new employment opportunities. PM Modi said that the agreement between two democratic countries and two major economy of the world will also strengthen global stability and prosperity.
Defense industrial roadmap ready
Releasing Vision 2035, PM Modi said that in the next decade, India-UK Vision 2035 is being released to give new pace and energy to our business strategic partnership. It will become a strong, reliable and ambitious partnership roadmap in technology, defense, climate, education sector. PM Modi, while giving a statement on the partnership in defense and security, said that Defense Industrial Roadmap has been made. Work will be done on strengthening our technology security initiative.
Giving information on the education cooperation of India and the UK, PM Modi said that in the field of education, both countries are writing a new story together. 6 Universities of UK are opening their campuses in India. Last week, South Hampton of Gurugram city of India has opened its campus.
Thanks to PM stormer and his government
Speaking on the Pahalgam terror attack, Prime Minister Modi said that the PM stormer and his government of the UK express their gratitude for the harsh condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. We are unanimous that double parameters have no place in the fight against terrorism.
He said that we also agree that the powers of extremist ideology cannot be allowed to misuse democratic freedom. PM Modi further said that our agencies will continue to work for cooperation and coordination regarding extradition of economic fugitives.
What did PM Modi say about the ongoing struggle in Ukraine?
Apart from this, PM Modi said that we have been sharing thoughts on peace and stability in Indo Pacific, the ongoing struggle in Ukraine and the situation in West Asia. PM Modi said that we support the restoration of peace and stability as soon as possible. The honor of sovereignty, regional integrity of all countries is mandatory. The demand for today’s era is not expansionism but developmentism.
Speaking on the Ahmedabad plane crash, PM Modi said that many UK citizens were also siblings among those killed in the accident in Ahmedabad last month, we express condolences to their family members.
People of Indian origin is a living bridge
People of Indian origin living in the UK work as a living bridge in our relations. Their contribution is not only limited to the rich economy of the UK, but also appears in the culture and sports here. When India and UK meet during Test series, then cricket has to be mentioned. Cricket is not just a game, but a hobby for both of us. Also, PM Modi invited the UK Prime Minister to come to India.
