Chhangur baba red diary: There are new revelations about Chhangur Baba alias Jamaluddin, the mastermind of the conversion gang. A red diary has been recovered in the raid by Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS), in which the names of many leaders and former officials are registered. They are accused that he received a hefty amount from Chhangur Baba in the 2022 assembly elections.
In this case, along with ATS, STF and Enforcement Directorate (ED) have also started investigating. In the diary, a clue of network related to foreign funding of 106 crore can be found.
Travel to Chhangur
Chhangur Baba’s real name is Jamaluddin and he is a resident of Rahra Mafi village in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh, which is bordering Nepal. He started his career by selling rings and amulets on a bicycle. But in the last decade, he managed to create property and network worth crores.
Donations from Middle East countries increased his economic strength. Investigations have revealed that he had more than 40 active bank accounts, through which about Rs 106 crore was transferred. He has two properties in Balrampur and Lonavala in Maharashtra, which has been priced more than Rs 18 crore.
Lonavala’s property and suspicious transactions
According to the ED, the land of Lonavala was bought by Chhangur Baba in August 2023 with a colleague. This property was purchased from a person named Mohammad Ahmed Khan, who is also said to be part of the suspected fund transfer.
Political contact and funding investigation
The most sensational thing that has come out in the red diary is political funding. According to the diary, Chhangur Baba gave cash to at least half a dozen leaders.
In an entry, it has been told that in 2022, a former candidate from Uttaraula assembly seat was given Rs 90 lakh. Although he lost the candidate election, the diary has revealed that Chhangur Baba was planning to support a former IPS officer from the same seat in 2027.
According to sources, Chhangur Baba played an active role in both Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections not only in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections but also in unison of his followers and voting for votes. A picture of Chhangur Baba has also gone viral with a gangster -turned -leader Atik Ahmed (who was murdered in 2023).
Network and arrest of conversion
Chhangur Baba was arrested from a hotel in Lucknow on 5 July along with Neetu alias Naseerin. He is accused of changing religion by making money, greed and marriage for conversion of economically weaker sections, widows, daily laborers, scheduled castes. The case started with the case registered by STF in Balrampur. After this, on 9 July, ED also started an investigation into money laundering.
Shell companies and FCRA violation investigations
The ED is also finding out whether these funding was done through shell companies or third party organizations, some of which have also been named on charges of violation of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
Action on raids and illegal construction
On July 17, ED raided 12 places in Uttaraula and 2 places in Mumbai. Also, an illegally built building in Madhupur village of Balrampur district was demolished by the administration. This building was built on government land and lived under the supervision of 15 CCTV cameras and two guards dogs. This complex was under suspicion for a long time.
