On Tuesday (July 15, 2025), the father of a 20 -year -old student of Odisha, a 20 -year -old student of Odisha, blamed the members of her college internal grievance committee (ICC). The student’s father alleged that the ICC members prepared a ‘biased report’ after the complaint of a student of sexual harassment on behalf of a professor, due to which the student set herself on fire on the campus on 12 July.
The student burnt up to 95 percent and died during treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. The father said, ‘ICC members are real guilty. He prepared a biased report, due to which my daughter committed suicide. He did not conduct a fair investigation and convicted my daughter instead of the accused teacher involved in the sexual and mental harassment of my daughter.

He claimed that the principal told my daughter on the basis of the ICC report that she was a mistake in the case and she could be punished for making false allegations against the head of the department of the college. Integrated B.Ed in Balasore’s Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College. The second year student of the course set herself on fire shortly after exiting the principal’s room. The student died on Monday (July 14, 2025) after fighting the battle of life for three days.
The father said, “ICC members should also be brought under investigation.” He complained against the ICC to the District Magistrate of Balasore Suryavanshi Mayur Development and Superintendent of Police Raj Prasad. He went to the girl’s house to hand over the grace given by the state government, when the student’s father complained.
ICC report tried to save the teacher
Balasore MP Pratap Sarangi also expressed concern over the ICC report on allegations of sexual and mental harassment of the student. Sarangi said, ‘I have seen the ICC report. This accused was prepared to save the teacher. He claimed that the head of the department has been glorified in this.
Both the principal and the accused teacher were suspended and were later arrested. Meanwhile, Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College remained closed throughout the day and heavy police force was stationed in the campus. Many student organizations demonstrated in various parts of Balasore city and demanded justice for the student.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s father gets a message
The student’s father urged people not to politicize the matter. He said, ‘My daughter went away. I appeal to everyone not to use it political. However, I will keep fighting to bring him justice. The father said that he has received the message of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
He said, ‘The Chief Minister sent me an SMS and assured a proper investigation. I have full faith in the government, administration and law and order. He also thanked the government for cooperation in the treatment of his daughter. The girl’s mother hoped that after the death of her daughter, the safety of other girl students in colleges and schools will be ensured.
