Cabinet extends tenure of Govind Mohan’s tenure, will hold responsibility till further orders for the post of Home Secretary

The central government has extended the tenure of the country’s Home Secretary Govind Mohan till 22 August next year till 22 August. This information was given in an official order. This year, Govind Mohan’s term was about to be completed.

Mohan, a 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Sikkim cadre, was named as Home Secretary in August 2024. He took charge as Home Secretary after the completion of Ajay Kumar Bhalla’s term on 22 August last year.

Govind Mohan will be home secretary till further orders

The order issued by the Ministry of Personnel said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has stated the All India Service (Death-Cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958’s FR56 (D) and Rule 16 (1A), as per the provisions of their retirement date from August 22 to August 2026 or by next order, the expansion of mohan services as Home Secretary. There is a provision to increase the services of such officers in these rules.

Cabinet approval

On behalf of the cabinet, the order said that the Appointments Committee (AC) has approved the expansion of Mohan’s services as Home Secretary from the date of their retirement to 22 August 2026 or from next order as per the provisions of FR56 (D) and Rule 16 (1A) of All India Services Rules, 1958. With the expansion of the cabinet, now Govind Mohan will now complete the tenure of the Home Secretary for 2 years in the year 2026.

Who is Home Secretary Govind Mohan?

Let us know that Govind Mohan is a 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Sikkim cadre and he took charge as the Home Secretary of India in the year 2024. Earlier, Govind served as Secretary in the Ministry of Culture.

During the Korona epidemic, the government gave him an important responsibility, in which he was working as a prominent officer. During this period, he was assigned to oversee the implementation of decisions for several protocols and to ensure smooth coordination with the states.
