The Congress on Friday (July 11, 2025) raised questions about making N Ramchandra Rao the president of the Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and alleged that the BJP rewards those who persecuted Dalits.
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramark claimed that Rao was among the accused in the Rohit Vemula suicide case in 2016 and now the BJP has given him the command of the state. He said that BJP should reconsider Rao’s appointment and apologize.
Police had given a clin chit in the case
The people whom the police had given a clean chit in the Rohit Vemula case included Rao. Ramchandra Rao, a former member of the Telangana Legislative Council (MLC) and senior leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), was declared the new president of the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on July 1.
Senior Advocate Rao has replaced Union Minister of Coal and Mines Kishan Reddy. Rohit Vemula, a student of Hyderabad University, committed suicide in January 2016 due to alleged caste discrimination.
What was the whole matter?
Vikramark claimed at the press conference, ‘The then BJP’s MLC Ramchandra Rao came with his goons, staged a sit -in, met the vice -chancellor and pressured the officials to take action against the organization of the disadvantaged students and also filed a false case. Due to this pressure on the students, Rohit eventually had to take his life.
He said, ‘It is very unfortunate that when Dalits and tribal are fighting for respect and social justice, at that time Ramchandra Rao has been appointed as the president of the party for the state of Telangana and the BJP has once again proved that whoever goes against Dalits and tribals will be rewarded by the BJP.’
Remember the basic duty of the government
Vikramark said that former ABVP leader Sushil Kumar has been appointed as Assistant Professor at Delhi University, while he has also been accused in the Vemula case. He said, ‘I appeal to all the people that think deeply on what is happening in this country.’
He said that the basic duty of the government should be to protect the life, respect and self -respect of every citizen of the country. The BJP should reconsider these appointments and also apologize unconditionally from the country.
‘BJP stands with those who atrocities on Dalits’
Rajendra Pal Gautam, president of the Scheduled Castes Department of the Congress, said, ‘Earlier, when there was an incident of harassment with Dalit, backward, tribal students, the government used to stand with the victims. At the same time, those who used to be accused of this were punished, but after 2014, the BJP government stands with them.
He claimed that the BJP always stood with the accused in the Vemula case. Instead of punishing Bandaru Dattatreya, he was made the Governor of Haryana. Mid M Sushil Kumar a professor at Delhi University. Gautam said, ‘Ram Chandra Rao had an important role in Rohit Vemula murder, BJP made him the president of Telangana state.’ He alleged that the BJP does not trust social justice.
