7 hours relaxation given in curfew in Leh, violence affected in Ladakh, people get relief after a week


The curfew was relaxed in curfew from 10 am on Tuesday (September 30, 2025) in the city of Union Territory Ladakh. After this relaxation, the markets gradually opened and the people who have been suffering from sanctions for a week got relief.

Earlier on Monday (September 29, 2025), restrictions were relaxed for two hours from 4 pm to two hours. This was done on Wednesday (24 September) soon after the funeral of four people, including a retired military personnel who lost their lives in widespread clashes between protesters and law enforcement agencies.

A police officer said, ‘No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere except the violence on last Wednesday (September 24). A large number of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in sensitive areas and they are keeping a strict monitoring to maintain law and order.

Relaxed for some time between curfew

On Tuesday (September 23, 2025), the first curfew was relaxed from 10 am to 2 pm and was later extended. The official said that the decision to carry forward the exemption will be taken on the basis of emerging situation. At the same time, Additional District Magistrate Ghulam Mohammed in Leh ordered to open all grocery, essential services, hardware and vegetable shops during the exemption period.

Earlier on Saturday (September 27, 2025), curfew was relaxed for the first time in different areas for two hours and from 3:30 pm to two hours. Officials said that mobile internet services in Leh city are still suspended and the ban on gathering five or more people in other major parts of the Union Territory including Kargil is still applicable.

Ladakh Ladakh Lt. Governor Kavinder Gupta is presiding over the high-level security review meetings almost daily. On Monday (September 29, 2025), he appealed to the people to maintain peace and called it the foundation stone of development.

Gupta had said, ‘I urge all sections of society to maintain unity and harmony and not fall prey to conspiracies of anti-social and anti-national elements. The administration stands firmly with the public and will ensure their safety, respect and progress.

Negotiations on every legitimate issue and democratic methods will solve solutions- Lieutenant Governor

During this time, he appreciated the public for showing remarkable restraint and commitment in challenging circumstances and promised to negotiate all his legitimate issues and resolve them in democratic ways. The Lieutenant Governor also issued clear instructions for gathering intelligence, regular community participation and quick redressal of public grievances to strengthen confidence between the administration and citizens.

Curfew was imposed after violent protests in Leh

Curfew was imposed in Leh city on the evening of 24 September after violent protests during the bandh called by a component of Leh Apex Body. This closed was to give state status to Ladakh and pursue the conversation with the Center on the demands of expansion of the sixth schedule.

After the incident, more than 60 people, including two councilors, were detained. These include the name of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) on Friday (26 September) and was later lodged in Jodhpur Jail in Rajasthan. Meanwhile, the Ladakh BJP demanded a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure accountability and justice.

BJP expresses condolences to the families of the dead

Expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, the BJP said in a statement, “We demand immediate release of all innocent persons accused of minor crimes.” The party said, ‘Ladakh is known for its beauty and good behavior of the people. We urge everyone in Ladakh to maintain peace and harmony. It is important that we do not take law and order in our hands or do not be a victim of wrong information. Come, let us work together to ensure peace.

In this, everyone has been appealed to unite and promote unity and harmony. It said, “We request all citizens to maintain peace and cooperate in efforts towards reconciliation.”
