7.5 crore cash, 2.5 KG gold, watches worth lakhs… what all has been found so far from the premises of Punjab DIG trapped in bribery scandal?


CBI has taken major action against Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar in the case of bribery and illegal assets and raided several of his locations. In the search so far, the investigating agency has found Rs 7.5 crore in cash, 2.5 kg of gold jewellery, 26 luxury watches and dozens of property documents. Bhullar has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

CBI had registered a case against the DIG on October 16, in which he is accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 8 lakh from a businessman in exchange for ‘settling’ the FIR registered against him and not taking any further action.

50 property documents recovered in the name of the family

Not only this, they were also demanding money every month. Taking action in the same case, CBI laid a trap in Sector-21 of Chandigarh and arrested the DIG’s middleman red handed while taking Rs 8 lakh. After the arrest of the middleman, CBI raided Bhullar’s locations in Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Samrala.

In the search so far, Rs 7.5 crore cash, 2.5 kg gold jewelery and 26 expensive watches branded like Rolex, Rado have been recovered. Apart from this, about 50 property documents have also been found in the name of DIG and his family.

Cash found during investigation at middleman’s house

CBI has also recovered account information from several banks, locker keys, four licensed weapons and more than 100 live cartridges. During the raid, Rs 5.7 lakh in cash, 108 liquor bottles and 17 live cartridges were also recovered from his farmhouse in Samrala. CBI also raided the house of the middleman, from where Rs 21 lakh in cash and many suspicious documents were recovered.

Bribe racket exposed in investigation

The agency is now trying to find out from which sources this illegal wealth was collected and which other people played a role in it. Initial investigation has revealed that Bhullar was running a racket-like system of bribe collection, in which many more people may be involved. According to CBI officials, the investigation is still going on and many more revelations may be made in the coming days.
