Tamil Nadu News: The government is running various schemes to help the poor and needy people. One of the important schemes is ration shops providing food items at subsidized rates. Food items including rice, raw rice, wheat, sugar, pulses, palm oil are being provided to 2 crore 27 lakh ration card holders through 34 thousand 850 ration shops in Tamil Nadu.
Officials say that ration card is mandatory to buy these food items. Apart from this, Ration Card is also an important identity document to avail the benefits of Tamil Nadu Government schemes like Pongal Gift Package, Women Empowerment Fund.
1 lakh 7 thousand new people applied
Last year, more than 3 lakh people had applied for ration card online and directly. Action was taken on these applications. Home visits were conducted and ration cards were distributed. Meanwhile, Food Department officials have informed that 1 lakh 7 thousand 910 new applications have been received for ration cards and the government is deeply considering these applications. He also said that ration cards will soon be issued to all the eligible people who have applied.
55 thousand ration cards ready
Officials of the Food and Consumer Protection Department have said that ration cards will soon be completely distributed to about 55,000 eligible persons at present. Officials said that after receiving complaints of delay in printing of ration cards, the work of ration card distribution is going on in full swing again.
