Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate three metro routes in Kolkata on 22 August 2025, including the first underwater metro route of Kolkata. Union Minister Sankat Mazumdar said that the inauguration of this metro project before Durga Puja is a historic gift for West Bengal.
Majumdar posted on social media X and wrote, ‘PM Modi will inaugurate Sealdah-Spladed part of the Green Line. The fellow will be completely operational, which will connect Salt Lake Sector 5 to Howrah Maidan, the first underwater metro in India. Also, Kolkata Airport will also be connected to the metro.
In addition to the green line, the inauguration of the orange line
According to the reports, apart from the Green Line, PM Modi will also inaugurate Hemant Mukhopadhyay (Ruby Crossing)-Belghata section of Orange Line and Jai Hind (Airport) section from Noapara of Yellow Line. Sukant Mazumdar also shared the invitation of the inaugural program sent by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.
Let us know that currently the Green Line in Kolkata Metro is operational in two different sections Howrah Maidan-Epland and Sealdah-Sult Lake Sector 5. Sealdah-Espland route construction work was disrupted after several landslides in Bobbar in the middle of the city. Now PM Modi will again lay the foundation stone of the modern Sealdah-Spladed route.

This route will be helpful for millions of people traveling to the IT hub of Sector 5, as the Green Line connects to the blue line on asplay and also connects Howrah and Sealdah railway stations. The airport will also be connected with this route, which will provide a lot of convenience to the passengers. At the same time, the Yellow line will be connected to the blue line in Noapada.
Also the Orange Line, which is already on between New Garia and Ruby Crossing, will prove to be convenient for people living in the eastern and southern suburbs of the metropolis. Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate a subway at Howrah metro station on this day.
